Recently, I have been fascinated with Mexico. I adore the culture, the food and, of course, the tequila. The mountains in Central Mexico are as amazing as is either coast – along the Caribbean or the Pacific. My first visit to Mexico was on a cruise for my senior trip from high school many years ago. I honestly cannot say that I was “Wowed” by the cruise ship version of either Cozumel or Playa del Carmen. In fact, I did not return to Mexico until about 15 years ago when I arranged a group trip to Cozumel. We spent one week in a 10,000 sq. ft. beachfront villa complete with chef and staff of 5. Was it the fresh guacamole served poolside or was it the spectacular views of the Caribbean Sea that won me over? It is hard to say.
Since that week in Cozumel, I have visited different areas of Mexico – San Miguel de Allende, Cabo San Lucas, and Isla Mujeres to name a few. Once again, Mexico is on my mind as I plan a trip for the spring of 2018 to Tulum. Despite the recent negative press that Cancun has received, I am looking forward to exploring the Mayan Ruins in Tulum and nearby, snorkeling in the cenotes of the area, and relaxing on the beach as I sip my favorite beach cocktail – a Paloma. As I am finalizing the details for my next journey South of the Border, I will share some of my favorite Mexican travel memories – the taste of the food, the thirst quenching cocktails and the warm and inviting people.
